Join the Fight Against CO₂ Pipeline
Understanding the Pipeline Issues
What is the CO₂ pipeline proposal?
The proposal involves a high-pressure CO₂ pipeline spanning 200 km. It aims to transport captured carbon dioxide from industrial sites in Derbyshire and Staffordshire to offshore storage, impacting green belt land in Cheshire East and Gawsworth.
Why is this project concerning?
This project threatens local ecosystems and landscapes, including Danes Moss. It represents a permanent industrialization of our rural areas, which goes against conservation efforts and community integrity.
There are additional concerns around the safety of routing near residential areas and community facilities such as schools, emergency planning and long term operational risk.
How can I get involved?
You can join our community initiatives, participate in rallies, and stay informed through our updates. Every voice counts in the fight to protect our environment, and we welcome your support in our cause.

Pipeline & Infrastructure Scrutiny • Manifesto
GAWSWORTH RESIDENTS GROUP
“We are here to make sure the right questions are asked, the right processes are followed, and that Gawsworth is properly represented along with the others affected along the route.”
Who we are
Our role as the Gawsworth Residents Group (GRG) is to ensure that any proposed pipeline and associated infrastructure is subject to proper scrutiny, lawful process and full transparency at every stage. We are committed to holding all relevant parties to account so that decisions affecting our village and the wider pipeline are made on the basis of robust evidence, appropriate assessment and genuine consideration of alternatives, rather than assumption or oversight.
We are not here to speculate or spread misinformation.
We are here to make sure the right questions are asked, the right processes are followed and that Gawsworth is properly represented within what is, ultimately, a nationally significant planning decision.
Our Key Priorities
We are committed to the following on behalf of Gawsworth residents:
1. Ensure that all statutory planning and Development Consent Order processes are followed correctly, with no shortcuts, omissions or informal decision-making that bypasses required scrutiny.
2. Hold Peak Cluster and associated bodies accountable for demonstrating that alternative routes and locations have been properly identified, assessed and, where discounted, clearly justified with evidence.
3. Push for full transparency on environmental, ecological, hydrological and safety assessments, including how risks have been identified, mitigated and communicated.
4. Ensure that the safety case, emergency planning and long-term operational risks are clearly understood, documented and subject to appropriate regulatory oversight.
5. Require Cheshire East Council to carry out a thorough and detailed Local Impact Report that reflects the specific impacts on Gawsworth — not just the high-level and county-wide assessment.
6. Make sure the unique characteristics of Gawsworth are properly considered, including its Green Belt designation, heritage setting, local infrastructure, farmland, water sources and proximity to residential areas and the primary school.
7. Support residents in submitting informed, relevant and well-grounded representations so that local concerns are formally recorded and cannot be dismissed or ignored.
8. Maintain a clear, factual and evidence-led approach in all communications so that our position carries weight with planners, inspectors and decision-makers.
9. Monitor each stage of the process and respond within required time frames so that Gawsworth remains well-represented throughout.
10. Act as a consistent and organised voice for the village, ensuring that engagement with government bodies, regulators and stakeholders is coordinated, professional and effective.
